“At Artist’s Point”
12″ x 18″
I painted “AT ARTIST’S POINT” a few years ago when I visited Grand Marais, located in Northern Minnesota, bordering on Lake Superior. I was invited there to conduct one of my Mentoring Workshops, that is the program where I paint along with the enrolled participants. The entire area offers such a variety of beautiful subject matter I felt it was endless.
Because I was so moved by the visuals, I returned the following year. This pastel was painted en plein air at Artists Point (the actual name of the location). The vastness of the Lake is impressive and has a magnificent feel to it, more like the ocean with rhythmic waves and then at low tide it forms gentle tide pools. In this pastel the stillness of the tide pools with its cool grey colors which was in sharp contrast to the flat, elongated richly colored red rugged rocks that seem stretching endlessly and horizontally, was the inspiration and my vision for what I wished to capture in this pastel AT ARTIST’S POINT.
